Verrucae

What are verrucae?

Verrucae can usually be found on the soles of the feet and belong to the wart family. They are usually white around the edges and often have black centres. They can be singular or in groups and are easily spread. Verrucae are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and can be found in the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin.

Treatment

Verrucae can be treated in various ways although they are well known to grow back repeatedly and can be difficult to eradicate. Treatment is to pare down the hard skin that usually grows around the verruca so that when a medicament is applied, the skin is more permeable to the medicament. Total Foot Repair uses zinc oxide tape which ‘suffocates’ the verrucae so that they die. We also use Spirularin and Verrutop which are applied directly onto the verruca/e.
